RICHTER: GENIUS

Betty 1977
Aunt Marianne 1965
Annunciation after Titian 1973
4900 Colours 2007
Cloud 1970

These were my favourite pieces from the current Gerhard Ritcher show at the Tate Modern. The exhibition is incredibly comprehensive and I enjoyed it far more to the Portraits show at the National Portrait Gallery last year. It is almost unbelievable that all of the above I have chosen are by the same successful artist. Most do not have the talent to question the role of painting in such a mixed way. As well as being such an incredible painter he also presented sculptural works made of glass which he used to question materials which seem to reflect clarity. I think I will be going back for a third visit in a week or so.
