BED OF ROSES

My bed is now covered with garlands. A clever way to solve the storage problem. Crochet and Heart pillows by my two dear friends Anna and Hermione. 100% home made for my birthday.

KEY TO MY HEART

I got these giant antique keys from a guy in Camden Passage market yesterday who was selling all the contents of his flat. His stall was covered with an array of stuffed animals, antique flags and bizarre bits and bobs, and I was curious as to where eveything might have come from. They look like the keys to a secret garden - I think they will look good attached to my straw bag. I wear my ceramic keys necklace every day - so much nicer than the gross Tiffany's key necklaces. SUPER CAR BOOT

My Sugarland had an amazing Car Boot Sale today - the owner of the shop, Zoe Lem, was getting rid of fifteen years worth of props and clothes from her career as a personal and celebrity stylist. There were some real bargains for those who had the patience to rummage. Frances was tempted by a cropped Steve J and Yoni P tartan jacket, and got swayed by a lovely moss coloured cashmere jumper. I got this PPQ oversized pink and black cardigan for a very good price! CW

IN THE ASYLUM

Watching Black Swan last week got us thinking about the light side versus the dark side. Although all black outfits are always a fail safe, in these dark winter days all white is a brighter alternative. We wanted to explore how this binary way of dressing could move beyond a ballerina's psychological breakdown and into a formula for minimalist basement dressing. In "In the Asylum" we take inspiration from the SS collections of Calvin Klein and Celine whose catwalks were flooded with models in full black or white. As with the Chloe collection there was a distinct move away from any monochrome in nearly all shows, with completely one colour outfits in black or white favoured.
Nurse Frances wears vintage Armani shorts, Rag & Bone t shirt, Urban Outfitters jacket, Primark shoes.
In-patient Claudia wears vintage boots, American Apparel shorts, Acne jumper, Phillip Lim cape (straight-jacket).

THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP

On Thursday night Nick Knight's SHOW studio opened their new exhibition dedicated to SLEEP. In the basement there was a screening of his web streamed video of super models sleeping. Upstairs there was a Warhol film and Corinne Day bed photos. It was a really well put together show and I especially liked the clear and white dotted naked portrait, which, when the light shines through it casts a shadowed version of the original.

FILL UP YOUR BUCKET

I am very happy to see the re-emergence of this early nineties style, and am currently lusting over the Alexander Wang Diego bag and Vintage Chanel. I think these look great teamed with a slouchy black cardigan and scruffy jeans and boots. CW

TWO WAYS TIMES TWO

We picked out two of our favourite garments and were curious to see each other's take on how to wear them. We both went for bold bright bottoms - Frances chose her Cos highlighter yellow skirt and Claudia went for her PPQ neon pink shorts.
With the Cos skirt Claudia wears Phillip Lim jumper, Asos hat, Surface To Air wedges and antique cuffs. Frances wears Primark shirt, sheer tights and Sam Edelman shoes.
With the PPQ shorts Frances wears Topshop vest top, vintage jacket and Acne boots, and Claudia wears Topshop coat, Phillip Lim jumper, vintage straw bag and belt, and No. 6 clogs.

TRENDS BOYS HATE

We've noticed that there are a few trends which girls love and boys loathe:

1. Granny / Grandad style. For many girls, trying to look like their grandparents is just a part of everyday life, but most boys find this aspiration for OAP status truly bizarre. Frances wears her grandfather's shirt and Claudia's granny's shoes. Claudia wears her granny's cardigan.
2. Unnecessary forehead headbands. Like garlands, they lack functionality, which many boys can't understand.
3. Tapered trousers. At times very unflattering and baggy in the wrong places. Hareem styles included.
4. Clogs / Man shoes. Clogs - Clumpy and traditionally part of the Amsterdam tourist trade. Many men are bewildered by women almost breaking their ankles in these. Man Shoes - Self Explanatory

BAG LADY

I have built up a pretty extensive (to the point of obsessive) bag collection over the past few years. Here are my top ten, in no particular order:

1. Vintage mini suitcase.
2. Vintage satchel: Although it is now falling apart (see sellotaped handle) it has served me well. I love the scribbled names of old schoolgirls inside.
3. Mulberry leopard-print clutch: the perfect thing to spice up an otherwise monotonous outfit.
4. Louis.
5. Vintage straw and leater bag. I bought it this morning - A real bargain from Four and Twenty Blackbirds in Camden Passage.
6. Mini picnic hamper my friend Will gave me for my birthday.
7. Miu Miu sequined slouchy bag: The sequins are silver on the top and brown, green and black underneath which makes then look like ever changing and moving fish scales. you can also do writing with them.
8. Mulberry oversized leather grey holdall: I got this free when I did a shoot for Mulberry a couple of years ago. Best freebie ever! It's a wonderful bag made with beautiful supple leather.
9. Antique Pouch Bag: A lady in Camden Passage gave this to me years ago in exchange for a garland.
10. Derek Lam mink and fox fur and python clutch: Ultimate extravagance. CW

ORLA KIELY

I am very excited about receiving the Orla Kiely Spring / Summer 11 stock in My Sugarland soon. This photo is from the presentation last fashion week. The bold colours and prints alongside retro shapes give a playful yet sophisticated edge to dressing for the warm months. CW

TWO WAYS TIMES TWO

I am a bit in love with my new H&M jumpsuit, as pictured above, I wore it out on Friday and it was so fun to dance in. However, it does remind me a little of a baby grow/ clown suit but there is nothing wrong with that. Another item that I can't seem to take off is my beige DKNY cashmere cable knit jumper which I got from the Chelsea Flea Market in New York. It was only $30 and was recommended to me by the vendor to go with my leopard print leggings. He has good taste.

ZOO KID

This band played at  GET ME last night at CAMP. Zoo Kid have a touch of the Jamie T to them but they were great to dance (or sway to). They have a chilled moody vibe due to their lead singer's ultra deep voice, which is a big shock as he looks like a 13 year old kid. FC

BRACE YOURSELF

Just finished this bracelet. It still needs a good shine (then a matt finish put on it again). I tried to distress the silver by blasting it with the blow torch as I hate super shiny silver. The home made charms are irregular and cut from a sterling silver sheet. More jewelry posts to come.
